About Kathleen Ryan

Kathleen is known for her work in building collaboration and trust within organizations. She focuses on supporting executives as they meet the challenges of changing business environments through executive coaching and team development. She has worked for over thirty years through her consulting practice, the Orion Partnership, co-founded with her late husband, Bud Orr.

Thanks to her high degree of involvement in co-authoring the Extraordinary Teams Inventory (HRDQ Press, 2012), Kathleen has developed a deep familiarity with how its concepts actually work on the ground with real teams, leaders, and organizations. Extraordinary Groups: How Ordinary Teams Achieve Amazing Results (Jossey-Bass, 2009) is Kathleen's third book.

Her first book, Driving Fear Out of the Workplace: Creating the High-Trust, High-Performance Organization (Jossey-Bass, 1991. 1998--2nd edition), was co-authored with Daniel K. Oestreich. It received the Society for Human Resource Management's Book Award. She continued her work on issues of fear and trust with her second book, co-authored with Daniel Oestreich and George Orr: The Courageous Messenger: How to Successfully Speak Up at Work (Jossey-Bass, 1996).

In addition to her consulting work, Ryan is a founding member of The Community Consulting Partnership, a Seattle-based effort that helps volunteers improve their organization consulting skills while they serve local non-profit organizations. She also has served on the Board of Directors for OSR-NW, a powerful, very cool and seriously transformative master's program now affiliated with the Bainbridge Graduate Institute.

Kathleen has worked with clients in technology, government, manufacturing, health care, philanthropy and community organizations.
